Everyone knows about the Parade of Lights in Alexandria. But did you know there is also one right here in the District? If you live here, and don’t feel like leaving, there’s no need to miss out.
On December 5th, from 4-8, there will be a lot of reasons to get out of your apartment and join the fun. There’s more going on than just the parade. Live jazz, lighting of the Christmas tree, photos with Santa, sip hot chocolate or apple cider while roasting marshmallows around a toasty bonfire, and even decorate some gingerbread cookies. Then watch the parade and vote for your favorite boat. The winner will be announced around 7:45.
Take the Green Line Metro to the Waterfront stop. Walk south across M Street and west 1 block past 6th St. There’s construction going on, but walk one more block until you can get in the main area where everything is taking place. If you are going to drive, use the big parking lot right in front of the water off Maine (M St changes names to Maine on the west side of 6th).
I’ll be there. Say hello if you stop by.
